Alleviating Back Pain with Chiropractic Care

Back pain is something that many people suffer from in their life. It can stem from a vigorous workout, lifting something heavy, or as a result of sleeping in a wrong position. When the pain in your back is due to a strained muscle, it will usually heal on its own in a couple of days with rest. However, if your pain lingers or if it is a result of a spinal disc injury, the condition may be more troublesome. Spinal disc injuries are quite common and can be really painful. They can become thin or herniated due to things, like arthritis and other degenerative diseases and affect your overall spinal health. If this is the case, it means that it’s time to visit Renew Chiropractic.
Finding the exact source of your back pain can be difficult and symptoms include:
·         Cramping
·         Muscle spasm
·         Buttock pain
·         Stiffness
·         Back pain
·         Spine sensitivity to pressure and touch
·         Prolonged inactivity causes pain
·         Pain lasts longer and gets worse
Depending on the cause and severity of your back pain, Dr. Jason Jumper at Renew Chiropractic may recommend a spinal adjustment and spinal manipulation of your vertebrae to alleviate your symptoms. An adjustment refers to Dr. Jason Jumper applying manipulation with their hands to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The objective of this treatment is to reduce the subluxation with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving overall function. As a result, this enables you to get back to living your life without having to rely on painkillers.

Healing Whiplash

Experiencing a car accident is a tough situation on a number of levels and most of us tend to worry about our automobile before we take care of ourselves. What most of us don’t realize however is that our body in a way is like a car and sometimes it needs to be fine-tuned to perform the way it was designed. While no one ever wants to be in an auto accident, it is important to know how to proceed with injuries should you ever be involved in one. At Renew Chiropractic, Dr. Jason Jumper can discuss an individualized treatment plan depending on where the injury occurs.

One of the most common injuries to occur from a car accident is the damaging effect of whiplash. Whiplash occurs when a sudden, jarring movement of the head is sustained backward, forward, or even to the side. Whiplash destabilizes the spine and can cause blurred vision, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, arm pain, and low back pain. Since chiropractors study the care of bones, muscles, nerves and connective tissue, they are crucial to visit after an accident occurs. Early care and treatment means fully recovering. If left untreated, auto injuries can lead to other serious health problems. Depending on the problem area, Dr. Jason Jumper may recommend spinal adjustments and manipulation, massage therapy, electric muscle stimulation or therapeutic ultrasound.

Motor Vehicle Accident Recovery

When drivers and passengers are involved in car accidents that aren’t major collisions, they too often neglect their physical wellbeing.  Usually more worried about an insurance claim or being late for work, we don’t always stop to assess what damage may have been done to our bodies.  At Renew Chiropractic, Dr. Jason Jumper and staff know some passengers feel the effects of whiplash injuries immediately following an accident.  Others may walk away from the incident not feeling injured and only experience pain later, which is why a chiropractor should always be consulted.

The sudden and unnatural movement of a body during a car accident causes whiplash.  Symptoms are typically pain and stiffness in the neck, back, and shoulders, but can include headaches and dizziness.  After a car accident, a chiropractor may perform an adjustment to realign your spine. For pain in the extremities, various techniques can be used to repair damage to hard and soft tissue.  After initial treatment, you may be assigned exercises to continue at home to help you heal faster.

If you have been involved in a car accident of any severity, always take the time to see a chiropractor.  Renew Chiropractic is happy to work with most car insurance providers.  To learn more, visit www.renew-chiropractic.com. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Jason Jumper, call 720-493-5885.

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Have you ever felt an unexplained pinch in your lower back and/or hip that becomes irritated when you move from the sitting-to-standing position? If so, then you may be experiencing sacroiliac joint pain. The sacroiliac (SI) joints are formed by the connection of the sacrum and the right and left iliac bones. The function of this joint is to transfer weight and forces due to movement of your upper body through the pelvis, to your legs and vice versa. When this joint becomes injured and/or moved out of place, Dr. Jason Jumper of Renew Chiropractic can fix the problem.

The primary role of the sacroiliac joint is to provide stability for the pelvis and to bear the upper load of the body. It acts as a shock-absorbing structure and does not have much motion, but it can cause pain once it’s moved out of its groove. While it is not clear how the pain is caused, it can develop because of too much movement or too little movement. If you feel inflammation in this area, the longer you wait to find relief, the longer it will take to correct the problem.

Because everyone is different, the treatment plan varies for each individual. Fortunately, sacroiliac joint dysfunction can be treated without surgery. Dr. Jason Jumper may implement a treatment method called “The Pettibon System.” The Pettibon system uses a group of manipulative techniques performed both by hand and mechanical instruments and rehabilitation exercises.

If you think you are suffering from pain in the sacroiliac joint, please give us a call to discuss your treatment options. Electrical Stimulation Therapy

Relieving Pain Through Electrical Stimulation Therapy
Although chiropractors are known for "cracking backs," they do much more than that. Nowadays, there are so many new technologies, machines, and techniques that chiropractors can use to help relieve pain. One technique is electrical stimulation therapy. As the name implies, this therapy uses electrodes to stimulate the area of the body that is in pain. This therapy offers many benefits. Lakewood chiropractor Dr. Jason Jumper has nearly 20 years of experience in the chiropractic field and is skilled in various techniques, such as electrical stimulation therapy.

How Does Electrical Stimulation Therapy Work?
This therapy mimics muscle contractions, which helps muscles maintain strength and tone as the patient heals from his or her injury. This improves circulation and range of motion. Without electrical stimulation therapy, muscles tend to atrophy due to a lack of use.

What is Electrical Stimulation Therapy Good For?
  • Back pain
  • Sprains
  • Scoliosis
  • Sciatica
Types of Electrical Stimulation Therapy
  • Galvanic - Pulsed electrical current is placed on the painful tissues. It uses direct current to reduce swelling and distribute nutrients to the affected area.
  • Muscular - By reducing muscle spasms, muscles are strengthened. Electric impulses cause muscle contractions, which stimulate the skeletal muscle.
  • Transcutaneous - Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is ideal for alleviating chronic pain and healing wounds. The stimulation is typically done through a portable unit that the patient can use at home.
